Hey guys,

How is everyone travelling this Monday afternoon/evening?

How was your day?

I got up early this morning as my husband had to be at the hospital by 7am. I then drove back to my local train station because I was worried that I would forget to get off the train two stops earlier than usual. Then I went to Tafe and finished my first aid course. I had completed the online assessments early, so I was able to leave Tafe at noon. This afternoon hubby and I had a late lunch at Grill'd and then I picked up a parcel box from the post office. Now hubby is having a nap, and I am here on Sane. I have Eat Well for Less playing in the background on the telly because I need background noise.

@Appleblossom

I had beef sausages and onions with sauce and mustard in white bread. It was yummy.

Re: Monday Meetup

Yes, I know One Voice. @Oaktree They are relatively new. We have branches locally, but I am not involved.

Having a partner is a different experience than for me. I would have loved my marriage to have worked out. I hoped here and there, but for various reasons I have been single 23 years, so I try and fill my time productively.

I am on a budget too with my music. I don’t have money to waste. I am not charging or being paid either. Not teaching at the moment, which is something I loved, but I also love doing music for me, and not having to deal with the shame and worry of how people perceive mental health issues. I am almost retirement age, anyway. So it’s a balance, but sustainable on a pension.

Good luck with finishing your studies. I don’t regret it.

🙂💙🍎

Re: Monday Meetup

Congratulations @Oaktree - four assessments passed. That must feel great.

I’ve had a busy week and only just catching up on the forums now. Hooray for it being nearly the weekend

Hey guys,

It's not Monday but I had to go to an RSL meeting last night so I am here today instead. How is everyone going? I have had a busy day today. I went to a lunch, went to the psych and then went and put petrol in the car. The car was almost on empty. I decided I didn't want to walk and had better go buy petrol.

Re: Monday Meetup

I started putting up my Christmas lights on the outside of my house to spark some joy 😁 A little early but I couldn't wait!

@Oaktree How was the RSL meeting?

Re: Monday Meetup

Hey @Oaktree Good to hear from you.

I had 3 good things yesterday, all social, then one seriously bad, then another good. Ie the video was submitted for the competition. So that is a tick. Apple is finally a social being. Took a while; after she got her seniors card but before her AGED pension. Better late than never.

Re: Monday Meetup

Hey @Appleblossom ,

Tell me more about RSLs. I'm interested as I've never really known what they do.

I'm glad you are finding ways to reach out my dear Apple. I hear it is out of your comfortzone?

@Appleblossom

Good for you being a social Apple. I hope you are enjoying that area of your life. Sometimes it gets a bit much and it's ok to pull back a little during those times and just look after yourself. As long as you venture back out again when you are feeling stronger. It is very easy to just isolate and never go anywhere. Sorry to hear that something bad happened but well done you for getting your submission in. I am proud of you.

@GalaxyGuide

Christmas lights sound really cheery. I used to put some lights up when the kids were small. My support worker has her Christmas tree up already. I might have to think about my tree towards the end of this month. The RSL meeting went well and there were so many members there which was nice. I got told after that I looked 30 so that was nice lol.

@tyme

What does the RSL do? Good question. Well primarily they run the commemorative services for ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, Vietnam Veterans Day and a few others. They also do some fundraising. This year our subbranch is donating $1000 to Salvation Army for their Christmas appeal. I guess they are mainly there to look after the welfare of veterans of the ADF. I think also veterans of The Commonwealth are able to join. We have a welfare officer who looks after people. It doesn't cost very much to join the RSL. I only pay $40 per year. In the city they have RSL house, and they have advocates you can use to help you with DVA claims and such. They also have a cheapish restaurant overlooking the river where members can go with a guest.

Each month we have a meeting that goes for about an hour. We listen to the office bearers who bring us news about what has been happening. It is mainly older gentlemen, but we have a few female members (mainly affiliate members - non serving). They are trying to encourage some younger members. At the moment I am one of the youngest, but I am not so young at 54. I lot of them are 70/80 not out.

Re: Monday Meetup

That's really interesting @Oaktree . We don't hear much about them except for the commemorative days you mentioned. I wonder how we can get to hear more about what they do?

@tyme

I am sure you could contact the RSL in your capital city and ask to join their mailing list. I get a newsletter by email occasionally and sometimes they send a little publication out by mail. That might give you a better idea of all the things the RSL are involved in.
