Talking through trauma and PTSD

A lifetime of pain

A lifetime of pain

Bare with my while I share this, my brain is flooded with thoughts so things might be a bit messy with how they are written.

TW: Disclosure of abuse (SA), suicidal ideation, and self-harm.

Content/trigger warning

From a young age I was exposed to being physically and sexually abused, combine that with the emotional abuse and it's left me with lifelong trauma. I was made to believe it was my fault, that it wasn't that bad, that it didn't matter and that I shouldn't talk about it. These incidents happened while I was in a Christian school, at different ages by different aged groups of men some my age at the time being 9 years old others being older than me, there were students, teachers, strangers that I didn't know. It never seemed to end, it went on for years with no indication that it was ever going to stop, how was I to get myself out of this, who would listen, who would believe me when my voice didn't matter. It only ended when I left school, I had to, I couldn't stay there, I couldn't keep being hurt.

Fast forward a while and I found relationships but I wasn't looking for a partner but rather a father figure something I had lacked all my life. This lead to being further abused as I sought out men that were considerably older than me, wanting to felt cared for, to feel safe but instead I was hurt. So I escaped one lot of abuse only to continue to experience another, was this all my life was going to be like, was this what I deserved, was this just normal?

All my life I've sought friendships that have been of varying age groups for different reasons. Younger friends to feel as though I had siblings to grow up with and so that i still felt like i had a childhood, older friends so that I felt like I had an auntie or a mother figure that cared and wanted to protect me. Now I find myself alone with only a couple of friends that I communicate with but none that I can physically see due to the distance between us.

Come to today and life's still in shambles, there's still ongoing abuse by various people including a family member. I've been seeking help, trying to learn to live with a lifetime full of trauma, trying to make sense of why it's been like this. It's not easy, trying to find someone that truly understands what I've been through, why I'm the way I am and to then be able to help me to recover if that's at all entirely possible.

I'm grateful that I'm still here given others have tried to fatally hurt me, then there's the attempts of ending my own life. But it's a struggle, flashbacks are triggered by the simplest of things, a word, a smell or taste, a sound, a name it can be anything and it can hit without warning, they can last minutes, hours or even days. I've used self harm to cope throughout my life and still do as it's the one thing I can control when everything else is spiralling around me. I know it's not healthy and I've tried to find other alternatives, sometimes I'm lucky and something will work for a while but then it stops and it's back to square one.

Anyway I think that's enough for now, I'm sorry for the long read and if it's confusing. Thanks for reading and I'm glad I'm here, this community seems to be amazing and supportive so thankyou to everyone I've talked to so far.

Re: A lifetime of pain

Hi @RebelliousAngel sorry to hear you are feeling a bit uncomfortable tonight.

I hope you are able to get a good rest.

Please remember to take things at your own pace, there is no pressure to respond to people.

People are just hoping to support you and they are not posting to get a response.

Please remeber that you are the Captain of your own ship and to take the course that you wish, if that does not include responding that is fine.

Re: A lifetime of pain

@RebelliousAngel Thinking of you.🤗

Within Things Matter.

Not seeing the lie whispered
spoken to my mind
from out of the darkness.
its voice beckons
me to follow blindly
and this kind of thinking
within killing good life.

For along with the lies entering
good things inside of me die
even as hot desires arise up,
I want,

I will to have.
I crave after,
crave after,
crave after,
my lost good life!!!

So suffering bad life
becomes true
while everything
named me
is for enjoying life
not hurt me.

For all i am
belongs to me
for i always
belong to all of me.

And so True Love...
growing me
has the demander dead
Within me

Now peacefully feeding
daily more
true good life
growing within me
while staying
truly free!

Re: A lifetime of pain

I hope you slept well @RebelliousAngel. Know that it's more than okay for you to listen to your body right now, in fact, it's necessary - no one will be upset. We all just want to see you feeling more grounded and okay. What will you do for yourself today? Does anything loving come to mind? 💛

Re: A lifetime of pain

Hey @AuntGlow I got enough sleep. I'm alright for the moment, I feel a little lighter today. I've become one with my lounge from the moment I got up this morning and I'm watching some movies.

I wanted to thank everyone that's offered their support here. I'm sorry that I have been unable to respond to each of you individually, but I want you to know that I appreciate you all. Sharing even this small part of my story took more out of me than I exoected it to, but I am glad I did choose to share it. Today I'm feeling a little lighter and accepting that it's alright to allow myself time to process my feelings.

It sounds like you're really honouring where your body is at and finding soothing in the slowness of your day - movies are the best when we just need comfort. Please feel free to tag myself/any of us here when you need to talk again. Remember, there's no pressure, no rush. We're here for you at your pace. @RebelliousAngel 💛

Re: A lifetime of pain

@RebelliousAngel So glad you felt supported bringing out in the open what hurts you in the dark, it can be hellish, and so lonely down there i know to be true.

Take your time processing the step you took, and please do not feel pressured to do anything out of must or bad feelings pressuring you to act - for such inner demands are always untrue feelings which and up stirring the unrest rather than bring us inner peace.

Re: A lifetime of pain

I can imagine that your body might be experience some big feelings as a sort of residue from sharing? Do you have safe people you can talk to right now?

If co-regulation isn't available, perhaps you'd like to try this tapping video I just came across:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YovfdfLFgk

I shared it with @NightFury as well, if you'd like someone to do it with. 💛

Remember you are always allowed to stop at any point if it feels too much.

I will be back on Sunday and will check in then.

Big hugs. 🥰
