Talking through trauma and PTSD

Family counselling

Family counselling

Hi

I'm a survivor of childhood abuse and neglect. Before me were 3 generations of intergenerational trauma on both sides. Trauma and conflict continue in my and younger generations.

I'm pursuing family counselling with some adult family members to resolve some current issues and to support one with particularly complex mh and health conditions.

Grateful to hear from anyone who can relate. Tips and pointers appreciated.

Not sure what you think of the I Ching, Book of Changes. @Dimity I wasn’t fond of people getting too much into the divination side, but I did like reflecting on change.

Equilibrium and ideas of Yin and Yang have their place, but life seems to throw the odd curved ball. Vitality and flow have their place as well. Sometimes, something has to give….

I hope it unfolds as well as possible.

Re: Family counselling

I've heard of the I Ching @Appleblossom but never gotten into it. Never really gotten into any divination or fortune-telling. Someone read dire things from palmistry in my early 20s and didn't elaborate. Someone else tried tarot once, which wasn't too far off the mark.

Hope your family situations are evolving in better ways than you fear. Mine have been thrown in the air and I'm not sure how they will fall. But I was good at pick-up stix as a kid lol so I'll give it time. Nothing else I can do really.

I guess being Sunday you're indulging in sacred music... indulging not a good word when it's been your bread and butter and guiding light

@Dimity

somehow I got through this morning

I have a friend who loves performing and another who hates it. I am not really comfortable with it but it gives me a purpose and a way to serve. I don’t think I would still be here.

I did this and another Handel as voluntaries plus hymns

he does too many repeats. Guess I am lucky I have big repertoire. But messed up Happy birthday today when put on the spot. Started it right, but flubbed the ending.

I am very depressed. I doubt my family situation will get better. I have been the silly rose coloured glasses girl, who had much worse occur than I ever expected. I just didn’t know how low in the socioeconomic order I was living in. So I guess I am feeling bitter and twisted but craving good music to help. A lovely old retired minister and a retired social worker did express appreciation for my playing this morning but I went straight to my car, after. I didn’t want to participate in the after service cuppa .

I was a little nostalgic in the New Music thread, funny that rocknroll gives a sense of attitude. Really don’t know where I am.

Dont want to bring you down. But reality checking is important too.

I am making spanakopita with bacon for dinner. A lady from my singing group grows silver beet and brings it in appreciation. Not getting paid any more but I appreciate her human offering. She married a farmer and says she was driving a tractor when pregnant. lol she is 80.

@Dimity lots of people were into the New Age divination stuff. I only indulged them to be polite, and in the end studied more science at uni. I am just aware enough to be able to make small talk. I just give credit for diverse wisdom traditions. I feel all the tarot and I Ching stuff can be very self serving. My husband did a bit of I Ching, yep he did a whole science degree. It’s a crazy world.

Fresh silver beet in spanakopita... yum @Appleblossom

My grandmother served as organist. Actually it was a harmonium. Family plus friends played recorder/piano from mostly Handel album and a Bach album.

This morning I was listening to some Rutter. Lord make me an instrument of thy peace. And I couldn't recall the one with Be of good courage but Prof Google helped.
