Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

That's interesting about the autistic burnout, @Dimity .

Does speaking to someone on a helpline count as talking to someone, in your mind? Or do you mean talking to people face to face?

Good luck with the optometrist today.

Re: Winter solstice

I go days without speaking to anyone either on phone or irl @NatureLover . Months between seeing anyone I know personally. I worry I'm losing my speaking voice and becoming unintelligible... I have a speech impediment... Speaking to a Helpline would count but I'm unsure what to say. Passive SI and isolation are too nebulous, and my particular difficulties are too complicated.

Last week I met my housework goal only once. I know I need to do more, in lots of areas. The free version of my mood/activity tracker only allows one daily goal so housework is a proxy for my general wellbeing, although I can tick things in other check-lists. I remember a psychologist years ago saying re hoarding "start with 8 items a day" so I guess I've come a long way, but when I backslide I have to start again. I'll need to start again in the garden too.

Hopefully catching up with a family member in a couple of days will lift my spirits.

Stay warm - and thanks for being there.

Re: Winter solstice

Of course, @Dimity . ❤️

Passive SI and isolation are serious issues - definitely serious enough for a helpline call.

I think 8 items a day is a lot!

Good luck with seeing your family member, I hope it goes well.

Thanks @NatureLover .

I just don't know what to say.

Hope tomorrow is a good day and not as cold.

Re: Winter solstice

@AuntGlow thanks for saying....

"@Dimity I'm sorry to hear that you weren't feeling connected in your support group, I know that you have been working really hard to put yourself out there, so know that this effort isn't for nothing (because you're learning what works for you and what doesn't). Exploring the knitting/bipolar support group sounds like a great next step.

"Those feelings are allowed to be there. I genuinely believe with every social chance you take, you are closer to finding your people. "

Having not attended my other support group last week - having dropped out - I was targeted at the support group today (they're run by the same organisation).

If threads are being reviewed to ensure they are in alignment with the new Recovery Club scope I expect this one will be locked and deleted too.

Re: Winter solstice

What do you mean, you were "targeted" at your exercise group @Dimity ?

Did they ask you why you had left?

Re: Winter solstice

@NatureLover one of the volunteers asked a fortnight ago and I said I didn't want to go into it. I'd also been quite circumspect when telling the coordinator I was cancelling.

I felt uncomfortable yesterday at things said and done in the group but realise I may have been over-sensitive - or perhaps it was the opposite, that I am so obtuse they needed to make pointed remarks. Either way I felt singled out for negative attention.

I'm also feeling intensely uncomfortable in this space. I've been banned from tagging SANE staff members although some have engaged me from time to time. And everything has to align with new Recovery Club values, whatever they are. As someonec iving with a dIagnosis of a chronic lifetime mental illness it's not easy to see things in terms of a short term recovery modality. I've been on the forums for 8 years.

Each post feels as though it may be my last.

Take care

Dimity

Re: Winter solstice

I'm sad you felt singled out for negative attention at your exercise class, @Dimity . Also that you felt you couldn't explain to the volunteer and leader why you left the craft group.

And I'm disturbed at how you feel on the forums here. Obviously I've missed a whole lot of stuff. That must be awful, feeling like each post might be your last. 😥

As to the Recovery Club guidelines, I haven't heard of it and have no idea what they might be.

I can only hope that you can feel more comfortable here soon 🤞❤️

Re: Winter solstice

Hi @Dimity ,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I can hear that you've been carrying a lot, and I'm sorry that recent experiences have left you feeling singled out, and uncertain about your place in the community. I want you to know that we really do value all members, and that you are always welcome here.

If you'd like to provide feedback about your experience with SANE supports and services, you're welcome to do so via SANE's Feedback and Complaint page.

Thank you again and take care.
