Healing Is Not Linear: A Reminder For Anyone Struggling

Healing Is Not Linear: A Reminder For Anyone Struggling

Hello very much everyone ‌‌💚

I created this image because I needed a visual reminder of what progress actually looks like. Lately, I have been trying to change how I think about my bad days, and this visual is what I came up with.

The core idea is that a bad day is not a setback. It's just another loop in the path.

Even when you are in the middle of a loop, even if it feels like you're going backwards or sideways, you are still further along than when you started at point A.

It can be really hard to remember this when things feel bleak, but every experience, even the painful loops, teaches us something and keeps us moving forward, even if the forward momentum feels slow.

I hope this visual helps anyone feeling stuck today. Be gentle with yourselves. You're still on the path.

I wonder, how do you visualise your own progress? Does this image resonate with you and your own journey? 💚

@MatchaToad I've been meaning to comment on your other thread that you posted the other day but haven't found the words lately. But this post felt relevant to me today given things that are going on. Here's a few quotes that I reckon relate to your post, hope it's ok to share them here ☺️

Hey @MissGremlin

Thank you so much for sharing these quotes here. They are truly beautiful, and I love the imagery in them; it feels so peaceful 💚

Please don't worry about not finding the words for the other thread; sometimes it is really hard to find the words we want to say. I will say that quote about only needing to figure out the next step is such a good reminder when the "loops" feel overwhelming.

I really appreciate you adding these to the conversation. Sending you some extra peace your way today 💚

@MatchaToad you're welcome ☺️. I find alot of the quotes very relatable and so do the community when I share them here and the imagery in them is an extra bonus.

Trying to find the words has been challenging as I'm in the midst of a storm currently. Typing is becoming easier but verbally talking is still very much a challenge. Yes i agree, that one is definitely a good reminder.

Thankyou, hope you've been having a lovely day ❤️.

@MatchaToad this is very accurate. It resonated with me because of my neurospicyness I actually think non-linearly. So it comes naturally to me to circle a problem before attacking it and you can't circle something with out going backwards.

My attitude towards failure in general is that it shows you a snapshot of reality in a way that success just can not. To quote Emil Cioran "it shows you as god see's you". If all you ever do is succeed then you are never sure of where you are at. Which when it comes to healing is very important and useful information. Also, it shows you are genuinely trying and not just going through the motions.

Failing is one of the most important things in life to master.

I love that perspective! "You can't circle something without going backwards" - this is such a perfect way to reframe those loops as a tactical move rather than a mistake. It makes the path feel more like a deliberate exploration rather than a random wander.

That quote you shared is quite profound. There is something very grounding about the idea that failure stripped of all the noise shows us exactly where we are. It's like a compass calibration; it might not tell us where we want to be yet, but it tells us exactly where we're standing so we can plan the next loop.

Thank you for sharing that, it is an empowering way to look at mastering failure as a skill in itself 💚

@MatchaToad Beautifully framed my friend. There are no mistakes, everything is perfectly as it is.

We may pretend to understand the universe but that is hubris our purpose on this earth is simple... it is to be.

As Kierkegaard said "From the lily and the bird as teachers, let us learn silence, or learn to be silent". Which to me means do the best you can with what you have and don't engage in "magic" thinking. The Lily does not care if it is in growth, bloom or decline it just does what it does. It doesn't know it is in drought and dying, it just does what it can with what it has.

@i8myego

That Kierkegaard quote is stunning. There is so much peace in the idea of the lily simply "doing what it does" without the weight of self-judgement 💚

It really strips away that pressure we put on ourselves to be in a constant state of 'bloom.' Sometimes we are in a season of growth, and sometimes we are in a season of decline or silence, and like the lily, both are part of our 'being.' It is such a powerful reminder to stop fighting the current loop and just exist within it for a moment.

Thank you for bringing that stillness to this thread. It is a very restorative thought to end the week on 💚
