Moved to Melbourne and don’t know what resources are out there

Moved to Melbourne and don’t know what resources are out there

Hey there,

Ive recently moved states to Melbourne and with a room mate that is struggling.

They were recently diagnosed with chronic health issues and their work hasn’t been supportive to say the least. As a result their mental health has gone down hill, they had a breakdown today after their boss started harassing them (during their paid leave) to sort out an issue.
She’s going to quit her job, but is anxious about working during their notice period.
Down in my Hometown (Hobart) there was a place [edited by moderator] that helped me out when I was in a similar situation. They wrote me a doctors note for leave so I wouldn’t have to go back and also helped me get on centerlink quicker while I looked for new employment.

Are there any places like that up in Melbourne?

Hey @Arlsey

Welcome to the Forums and thank you for reaching out! 🤗

It sounds like you have been carrying a lot since moving to Melbourne, and I'm really sorry to hear your housemate is going through such a stressful time with their health and workplace.

Unfortunately, our Community Guidelines don't allow for members to post about local service providers (for privacy reasons, and also to prevent marketing within the space.) You can review our community guidelines here https://saneforums.org/t5/help/faqpage/title/community-guidelines

In the meantime, if your housemate is looking for support with their current situation, it may help to explore advocacy and workplace directories, such as Victoria Legal Aid or Fair Work Ombudsman, to understand options around workplace harassment, leave, and notice periods.

It may also help for them to speak with their GP, particularly if they are needing medical certificates or support whilst managing their overall health and wellbeing.

Again, welcome, and thank you for being part of the Forums!💓

Hi there @Arlsey ,

I'm sorry to hear about yoru room mate. It sounds like a really stressful time.

Has your room mate accrued enough leave to take it for the remainder of the notice period? I hear the anxiety your room mate must be experiencing if she has to go to work each day and face the same thing.

As for Centrelink, the rules are often changing, so it's probably best to ask them directly. In the past, there was a centrelink medical document for doctors to fill in. I don't know if they still have that?

I can see you care a lot about your room mate. I hope you also find space for self-care.
