The Creative Writing Corner

The Creative Writing Corner

"There is no greater power on this earth, than story," Libby Bray

Why hello there!

I've been discussing with @Jynx and @AuntGlow the fact that I used to write a lot as a child - pages and pages of imagination, and wonderous stories that I loved sharing with anyone that would listen at the time. I feel like I've lost that little spark of wonder and imagination. AuntGlow and Jynx have been encouraging me to explore writing again, to remove the perfectionism and judgement from it and look at it as a process, as a way to connect with younger me and the kind of vivid imagination that younger me had.

I know that we have some writers here, and some members who use writing as a way of expressing themselves, so I wanted to extend the same opportunity to the forum. I thought we could share a writing prompt each week, and members could write whatever comes up for them, whether it be poetry or prose. Members can share their writing, or just comment and let others know that they're joining in - whatever feels more comfortable. There's never any pressure to share. As a matter of safety and consideration for others, please make sure that the writing you do share, sticks to the forum guidelines.

Our first prompt to kick us off is....

@NightFury This is such a lovely idea for a thread. Here is my response to the prompt:

Drip drip

Raindrops fall on my tail

My fur is wet, my body shivers

My stomach longs to be filled

I can smell their food

I feel the steam warm my whiskers

Maybe I will get a bite to eat

I hide in the bushes

Waiting for scraps to fall

Trying to keep dry

I know how to hunt

I know how to purr

I know that while today is hard

I am always able to

Take care of myself

And be young, wild and free

Re: The Creative Writing Corner

interested in this thread although i probably won't participate

i mostly stopped writing over the past year and a half because the subject matter has just become too gratuitously violent and dark and sexual that it disgusts me. i guess it doesn't matter because i'm an incredibly constipated writer. i tried to write last night and walked out with one paragraph. i have also noticed as i grow older i get more precious and secretive of my writing and my output has completely crashed

The person in the picture

I imagine that they're me

Standing like a statue

Terrified to breathe

Glancing up from my pose

I take a look around

I take off the armour

Raise my feet from the ground

All of the potential

All the fun to be had

It's like a playground

To climb and slide and play

I climb up to the ceiling

And see the coloured drapes

I jump and slide and wwhhhheeeeeeee!!!!!!

With very little grace

I use the beams as monkey bars

Swinging from the rafters

Just try and catch me!

I'm not breaking anything!

I use the carpet as a mat

Along the slippery ground

It was on the staircase

And already worn out

Sliding in the drizzling rain

Everyone is inside

It just became a waterpark!

A smile so big and wide

I look up at the flagpoles

And suddenly it's a bridge

I run and jump and race across

At least the gaps weren't big

Then I check the place over

Make sure nothing is out of place

I retake my position

With elegance and grace

@NightFury love the thread, so glad you ended up creating it 🥰.

Love your handwriting actually!

And really liked your writing - it felt like i was reading any other published novel, the detail of the thoughts of the person especially. I am now wondering what Bellamy has stolen... maybe food? Or maybe something more... 🤔
