The Creative Writing Corner

The Creative Writing Corner

"There is no greater power on this earth, than story," Libby Bray

Why hello there!

I've been discussing with @Jynx and @AuntGlow the fact that I used to write a lot as a child - pages and pages of imagination, and wonderous stories that I loved sharing with anyone that would listen at the time. I feel like I've lost that little spark of wonder and imagination. AuntGlow and Jynx have been encouraging me to explore writing again, to remove the perfectionism and judgement from it and look at it as a process, as a way to connect with younger me and the kind of vivid imagination that younger me had.

I know that we have some writers here, and some members who use writing as a way of expressing themselves, so I wanted to extend the same opportunity to the forum. I thought we could share a writing prompt each week, and members could write whatever comes up for them, whether it be poetry or prose. Members can share their writing, or just comment and let others know that they're joining in - whatever feels more comfortable. There's never any pressure to share. As a matter of safety and consideration for others, please make sure that the writing you do share, sticks to the forum guidelines.

Hey @Calamity I'm new here too! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your piece. The imagery it evokes is both beautiful and heartbreaking. Thankyou for sharing 😺

Hi @Mortimer_3 @

Thank you for your lovely feedback. You have made my day. I have been struggling with writers block for a while. It was a great feeling to push through the anxiety and just write. Do you write as well or have any other hobbies?

Re: The Creative Writing Corner

Not a problem @Calamity 😺

I know how you feel re: writer's block. When I sense it's about to strike I find going back to familiar topics, personal experience or simply writing about what I can see in my environment can really help to just get words flowing again. Pushing through is an amazing effort and you can be super proud of what you created!

I write poetry and middle grade stories (yet to be published) and I used to write content for different companies.

I jump around hobbies a lot, but my current ones are crochet, sewing, block printing and painting. What about you?

I'm sorry @Calamity I've been dealing with some things and have only just seen this now. You are very welcome here, and thank you for sharing your writing.

Re: The Creative Writing Corner

Eboo is my name. I'm bathed in grief, but tetherred by love. The Mother keeps me as a touchstone to stay close to the one who has gone. Her bejewlled fingers hold me tenderly, her lips caress me with a tender kiss as I am laid gently on the bed where she died. I miss her too. I feel desolate without her then I remember that the sun still shines and if I step outside of my grief, there is a beautiful world waiting for me.

That's a beautiful, sad story. I love how you were able to say so much in such a short paragraph,
