MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

Hi all,

I have been exhaustively searching for an MBT specialist in Melbourne and am unable to find any that are taking new patients or have a waitlist. I've only spoken to one [edited by moderator] clinic that confirmed that they have MBT clinicians but are not taking anyone new on board.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have been using multiple resources (must admit, AI has helped with the researched) and contacting those who fit the bill.

Seeking guidance.

@EternalFlower, thank you for your replies and support. You approach to my post and to in response resonates with the way I like to receive support. I am grateful for this.

How do I feel about starting therapy... The same feelings when I started CBT, DBT and Schema, hopeful to have a rope to guide me out of the darkness. Also, a fear is present as there are no other options post this. Fear that if it doesn't help me get a grasp on my patterns, learn resilience through practice and stop myself from splitting, that all hope is lost. I'll be left drifting in the void as I have been all my life. No way to find stable ground, unable to give myself the things that I have been seeking in others that ends in pain and consumes me.

Thank you for the links, I will spend time going through them.

Re: MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

The second link you shared, one of the names on there from Vic referred me to the clinician that I am on the wait list for. She was so kind when she called me, I found my myself sharing more than she asked and she created the space for me regardless. I had to hold back breaking down into tears. Just as I am now thinking about it.

Re: MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

Such a simple question but so confusing for me to answer.

I think at the moment I'm so mentally exhausted that I am being hyper conscious of not getting caught in thought loops. Anxious thought loops.

I woke up feeling absolutely alone, abandoned, broken, unseen, not understood.

I dragged myself to the gym, loaded up the squat rack and gave myself no choice but to be present to the weight that was trying to crush me.

As soon as that moment was over, the emptiness was back, the desires, the longing, yearning and the knowledge that I an incapable of maintaining any of those things.

Came home, ate, and went to the beach for 2 hours. It's a gorgeous day in Melbourne and being by the water can bring me a moment of peace. The icy cold water sure did.

Started reading The Buddha and the Borderline whilst on the sand, those first few pages, how they resonate...

Back home, unsure how I feel. I don't feel calm, the odd tear just streams for no real reason other than a general sadness.

I realise that's a long winded answer, not what you asked, in this moment, that's how I choose to answer.

Hi @tyme please can u link evidence base for ur claim that mbt is a growing field where clinicians are slowly being trained and up skilled? Where did u hear this? I do not believe this is true. I also am aware sane requires evidence base for any claims made to ppl seeking health info. I dont see any evidence base for this claim. Cheers.

Re: MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

Sharing Credible Information Guideline
Why do we have it?
Ensuring that factual claims made are backed up with evidence, as many members rely on the forum to find health information.
What does it mean?
When sharing health information or making a factual claim, please link to the source.
- this would also apply to other claims made about entry into mbt, that ppl are only accepted after thorough intake and if they are secure and stable. Again, please share sources as sane explicitly asks for this. Cheers.

Hi @peaceandsafety no worries if not but would it be ok if u could tag me so I could aee ur posts quicker. No worries if u prefer not to.

I relate to the emptiness and between spaces. Its like chasing meaning and then its always elusive. Although at least with gym work there is a tangible benefit even after the session is finished

Im sorry u dread waking up

Hey @EternalFlower mentioning services should be okay, for example, you mentioning BlueKnot is completely okay! The only instance where I could think of where mentioning a service would be an issue is if it was an in-person service and the specific location or centre was mentioned, as this could compromise anonymity, or if it was a complaint about the service. Other than that, mentioning services is a-ok

Re: MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

hi @Ru-bee that was my understanding - not an individual clinican eg "I saw Dr X at this public hospital" - because if i mentioned that hospital ppl may knnow where i lived ?

But people have in other threads mentioned the above mentioned trauma program in great detail, by name, and also told me individually what clinicians they see there - so I don't fully understand -

If I said I had a negative experience at Blue Knot - would that be not allowed (then you'd say bring the complaint to the service) - (I didn't have a negative experience at Blue Knot). But I'm wandering about the bias of allowing ppl to write glowing reports of a specific service (ie Blue Knot saved my life and i think everyone should use blue knot who has trauma) which is also kind of medical advice.

A few grey areas.

Re: MBT Therapist in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

Hey @EternalFlower if you see those posts where specific clinicians/workers at a service are mentioned, please flag them so that we can review them.

Looking at the guidelines, "general discussions about experiences" are okay, you're right in that the line between "general discussion" about not having a good experience with a service, and this becoming a complaint about the service be a bit of a grey area. If you do ever feel that mods have gotten this wrong we do encourage feedback so that it can be reviewed.

In terms of giving glowing reports of a service, when speaking from one's own experience and framing it as a suggestion of something to look into or explore, that's okay. If someone was to speak from a place of authority or give very prescriptive advice then yes, that would begin to veer more into medical advice and would be something we looked into. Eg saying "You need to sign up for this, it will help you 100%"

I hope this was helpful, but I am very mindful of not wanting to turn this thread into a discussion about the guidelines, so will leave this conversation here, any further questions please feel free to email us at team@saneforums.org
