@RachSANECEO @Captain24 @AD_SANE_LEM @Jupiter I love the idea of self-guided courses - especially them being self-paced online and with being able to discuss with peers in discussion threads. The one thing I would suggest is that these do have a timeframe from start to completion - ie. 10 weeks - so there is some goal setting and accountability within the courses (but with the option to 'take time out' for a period and pause a course if needed as we know how 'life' can get in the way with MH).

For the cert IV I would think SANE would need RTO status - so that could be a tricky one. Maybe aligning with one or more training organisations who have that certification and having training here recognised as RPL (recognition of prior learning) by them might be a better way to go?

For 'meeting staff' - I don't think we need to use real names - usernames as with other members - but a little about their role at SANE and how it contributes to SANE's overall strategic plan and the future of SANE. One of the things we have seen over time on the forums is the 'gap' between those that work and those that engage on the forums widening. At the beginning, mods and CMs were very much a part of the forums. As the forums have grown (massively), this changed - and whilst I understand the need for safety and professionalism from all - it has meant an inequitable gap has developed ...and the gaps on the forums have done so equally. Where once mods and CMs were able to be across the 'whole' forum, that is not the case now ...but that is a discussion for another thread.

There is currently no visible and easy mechanism to suggest content and/or topics. We can always email team@sane.org or suggest things in threads but there is no direct link to do this. I liked your idea elsewhere of a 'post box' style icon that would be used for suggesting topics or making suggestions inthe future. This would be aside from the current 'feedback and complaints' as I would suggest the title itself gives more to complaints and is not widely seen as a positive link.

The types of topics that would be at the top of my list are:

  • goal setting
  • positive self-talk
  • safe story telling
  • managing triggers
  • types of therapy - what suits one best
  • navigating the MH system ...aligned with...
  • advocating for supoort (both personal and for others)
  • navigating the NDIS
  • Rights of the consumer and responsibilities of clinicians
  • A wholistic approach to supporting someone with MH issues (ie. body, mind, social) ...aligned with...
  • Cognitive health, emotional health and behavioural health
  • peer work and peer support

Re: Topics and Content

Sorry, I’m not as good at this as @Zoe7.

I do like their list of topics though. A lot of those topics will help better understand the MH journey and with that understanding may help with recovery.

I wanted to be better able to support others, but with a lot better understanding of my own recovery would lead to being able the help others.
