Re: Topics and Content

I would like to see more recovery-led topics - including online workshops, online training/courses and self-directed courses. The Peer Program is a great initiative - as was the Community Guide training program - but that was hard to access and had flaws that were not fixed ...as well as no communication as you progressed through the modules. That could be the type of training though that could be accessed by the wider community. I would like to see such training that aligns with the Cert IV in Peer Work and participants can count that towards the ultimate completion of a Cert IV.

I would also like to see more videos as was recently posted by @RachSANECEO - open to discussions afterwards on their content.

A regular 'meet the CEO', staff or Peer Ambassadors would be great - with questions and answers afterwards. A Topic Tuesday type session but at a more personal level than just topics covered - and regular as with the once a month Topic Tuesdays - speaking of such - Topic Tuesdays are now held too early ...for some it is coming home from work time and for others, it is dinner/family time. The threads are then closed too soon for anyone else to engage in discussions. I would suggest a minimum of 3 days for people to catch up and for further questions to be answered by the mod/PSW/etc. participating in the discussion. We could then also run those sessions in 2 timeslots - one during the day and one in the evening - so everyone who is able to can attend one of them. I understand the logistics of running 2 sessions is difficult but if we are to allow for a wider audience (and make the topics covered worthwhile for the whole community) then there needs to be a change in the way we do such things.

I find the Peer Group Chats on a platform that is ridiculously hard to navigate and not being on the forums themselves, you cannot just jump in and out without difficulties. The platform does not allows work for some and many times responses are missed and/or not acknowledged/answered. I would prefer to see these discussions as a thread on the forums rather than externally devlivered - no doubt that would reduce the cost to SANE also.

I agree with most of what @Zoe7 has said.

Especially around the online workshops and training. I would like to be able to support others more. So some training around that would be great. I do acknowledge that that type of training isn’t for everyone though.

Also more video discussions would be great. I got a lot out of the one that @RachSANECEO did not long ago. I lived experience aspect of it was really good and can show members that recovery is possible.

I find topic Tuesday to early as well. I do struggle to keep up with it though. Having to refresh constantly. I like the idea of keeping it open for a couple of days for those that couldn’t do that time slot to be able to ask questions and continue the discussion.

I myself, find the peer group chats a lot easier to navigate. It is quick paced but I find it easier to follow. Having it weekly, I find, is beneficial as there are a lot of topics that can be discussed. I get a lot out of these and usually find that I’m not alone and that other members give suggestions of things that they have tried.

Re: Topics and Content

My experience with Group Chat @Captain24 was earlier on - I have no been a part of it for sometime so hopefully it has changed/improved. I felt completely ignored every time I took part and it left me feeling both disappointed and isolated. To make it worse - there were often more PSW/mods taking part than members so that made it doubly disappointing. If that has changed then I am pleased for those that take part. I also found that some topics were taken from the forums where there had been no interaction from those PSWs on the particular threads nor any acknowledgement that members had started that particular discussion on the forums. That was particularly hurtful (for me) and was really the end of the line for any participation. I do hope all that has changed but sadly my past experience will stop me participating in the future myself.

Re: Topics and Content

That’s understandable @Zoe7. I’ve only been around 15 months. So I also can only go on my experience. There is quite a few members that are on it now. It has grown in the time I’ve been doing it.

This is where this is good as we all have different opinions and different experiences. It allows for a wide range of ideas and suggestions.

Re: Topics and Content

That's good @Captain24 Pleased it is working out for some.

Re: Topics and Content

Thanks @Captain24 we are thinking about how learning might work, and considering the development of learning pathways/courses/modules that are self-guided. Done well, this would mean you could use some sort of explorer, work out what you want to learn, and pick the right course/module and then with the help of well-crafted videos and guides - study self paced topics online; and connect with others doing the same in discussion threads.

So - my question to you is: how does that sort of format sound, largely self-guided, peer group chats and then, what sort of courses/modules do you think you would want to see in it?

Re: Topics and Content

@Zoe7 is there currently a mechanism for Forum members to suggest what topics they'd like to be covered in a future event?

Re: Topics and Content

on a couple of these points @Zoe7 the link to Cert IV would potentially be a bit tricky because that's an AQF course and we *might need to have some sort of RTO status to do that but its worth investigating.

On your point about meet the staff- this is something we are keen to do. are there any guideposts that would be important do you think? Obviously my profile on SANE forums here has been something of an experiment..

Re: Topics and Content

@Zoe7 what sort of topics would be at the top of your list for recovery courses / discussions / events?
