Welcome and getting started

Hello From an Old Nasho

Hello From an Old Nasho

Hello everybody.

[Name edited by moderator] I was a National Servicemen from July 1969

until July 1971. I underwent my training at 2RTB Puckapunyal, and

was posted to Enoggera as a Clerk Technical with 24 Construction

Squadron RAE. I didn't serve any time overseas, and spent my time

in the QMS.

As I was married at the time (long amenably divorced) travelling and

renting in Melbourne, then Sydney, then Brisbane was a real hassle,

as my army haircut seemed to suddenly create a shortage of rental

properties LOL.

I have to say (like a lot of other Nashos) that this was a very disruptive

two years stolen from my young life—particularly from an employment

scenario, and also paying off my first block of land on half the salary

I'd been earning in civvy street. The $12 a week marriage allowance

really went a long way in helping. Not.

—Anyway, I'm looking forward to having a few chats on the forum. Cheers all.

Hey @oldTiger_1946 ,

First off, welcome to the forums! How are you doing today? What was it like being a National Servicemen? Do you have any favourite memories of your time served?

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hello there and welcome. @oldTiger_1946

I'm pleased to "meet " you here

Wow the stories you could tell.

I'm watching football on TV I don't support either of the teams playing but am a football tragic.

I'm an ex-teacher, early retirement due to mental health issues.

I'm sure you'll find a lot of people here who are supportive and caring.

I look forward to chatting more soon @Taali
