It takes a lot of courage to go to the police and ask for a domestic violence order. This is definitely not an easy step to take. I can hear that rather than listening, believing, and protecting you, the police instead referred you to community mental health where you received additional diagnoses. This sounds like it would have been incredibly frustrating and invalidating and it is completely understandable to be sitting with some challenging feelings here.

Despite this, I want to acknowledge the strength in reaching out to the forums here. Having a space where you will be heard and believed can be so valuable.

I wonder if anyone in the forums might have had a similar experience and could share what steps they took to support themselves? Or some words of support and understanding for @Sequester through this time?

Thank you. I know it is not appropriate given community mental health teams are supposed to be trauma informed, be person centred, neuro affirming (as if) and understand power differentials in relationships.

Yet schzoid says it is because of bad parenting and an inability to have a normal relationship. How can you have a normal relationship with someone who has had a history of DV with other women.

I kept it short because that very same psychiatrist was very neurotic to put me on webster packs with two types of psychotropics three times a day for two weeks until I self-admitted to RPA for extreme unwellness.

I guess these people will come across the health system in their own time for maybe dementia or other such condition where they have a service inflicted upon them.

In the meantime I have learned to build resilience and I actually find I have inner freedom which is a feeling of optimism. But (in my experience) if I told community mental health they would say I am manic and in need of immediate hospitalisation, which they did twice in a year.

I would say to people like me who have gone through this, to speak their truth to someone they trust (edited by moderator) It has become a mantra to me "they have to live with themselves".
