Disclosing to Family TW SA

Disclosing to Family TW SA

I've never disclosed to my family not on purpose and not the full story either and I feel like my hand is kinda being forced due to some stuff that happened someone found out and I just don't trust them with that information but at the same time I want to its been a loooong time and they've always just had half a story and I think I'm tired of holding these things I need to let people around me know why I struggle so much. I can't handle court but I can take this step finally.

I don't have a lot of confidence in my family being able to handle this news appropriately but I think it will continue to eat me if I don't, healing is hard.

Just be open to whatever comes

My mum just said "Oh, I didn't think you remembered" with a smirk

Hi @Trickster

Healing is hard. Opening up is hard.

My family only know the basic's of my SA. I will say that it wasn't received well, but that is me. I won't go into details but lets just say it was tried by my mother to be hidden away.

You need to do what is right for you. I don't know your family so cannot really judge how it will be accepted but if it is something that needs to be done for your healing, then that is for you to decide.

Re: Disclosing to Family TW SA

Thank you both,

Its done. It wasn't worst case scenario there were some tough questions but nothing invasive concern mostly on there part. Why didn't I disclose sooner, who are the perpetrators, have they will they hurt anyone again. Questions I can answer and one I cannot fully answer. Its tough being a survivor of historical abuse waiting this long but you know where some are and you don't have the strength to stand up publicly on privately with close family. Admitting that for the first time to people I didn't quite know how they would react was the hardest part.

I feel like there is a burden off my chest one thats been there since I was 7 I'm glad I did it.

Hi @Trickster

I'm glad it feels like a burden lifted from you. It's good that your family had that type of response. We never know how they will react.

I hope with telling them this that you can get some extra support from them
