The Morning

The Morning

The Morning

I wake up in the morning

Just before dawn

I do a stretch

And I have a big yawn

I go and put some wood on the fire

For it is very cold

I say hello to my dogs

And “I love you”

They are all told

I do go outside

And listen to the crows cry out

Oh so very good morning

I feel like I could shout

I make a coffee

And go back outside

and smoke a cigarette

I think of things to do today

And hope I do not forget

I sit and watch the day break

But it is very gray

I do hope so very much

That the rain will stay away

I wander around the garden

Looking at the dew on the rose leaves

The crisp air tickles my nose and it runs

And I wipe it with my sleeve

I wander into the new fernery

And think of what I can do

But before I do anything

I do better ask if its ok with you

I decide to have breakfast

Porridge to warm the soul

With it I take my medication

So my illness doesn’t take it’s toll

I go and wash my face

And brush my hair

I look in the mirror

And smile back with flair

There are so many things to do today

I don’t know where to start

But I know that I am lucky to be alive

And I am thankful with all my heart
