Struggling with ADHD

Struggling with ADHD

Hi.

I was diagnosed with ADHD last year and have been struggling.

It's made so much in my life make sense going back to even my childhood. I have had a long journey starting with a Depression and Generalised Anxiety Disorder over 20 years ago to finally being diagnosed with ADHD.

I feel since being diagnosed with ADHD I feel liberated but so aware of it now. I'm really struggling with empathy for my self though. My depression and anxiety definitely make it harder.

I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with their ADHD and how they are managing?

Hi.

Thank you so much for your reply and offer for support.

Sounds like you have had quite a journey also.

How are you managing currently with the transition?

I tried several medications so far too over the years, but with too many side effects. I have so far tried two ADHD meds with too many side effects also. I'm yet to try the third yet as am anxious about more side effects and recovery time.

This is my first medication trial.Psychiatrist offered me that, or using a blood pressure medication to address symptoms.I cant take a stimulant as I have a sinus tachicardia .Anxiety is more due to the wash out of the previous medication. This was cross titrated with the new med.The day aftee ceasing the old med, my anxiety symptoms went into overdrive

Re: Struggling with ADHD

I totally understand, I was always the naughty child at school, there was no ADHD back then I was labelled hyperactive. Finally at the age of 62 I’d like to try medication to help me sleep and I have a very addictive personality, can’t have 1 tom tam have to eat the packet, can’t have 1 glass of wine, have to drink the bottle and I never finish things I start before moving on to the next. Sadly to get help to see a psych you need hundreds or even thousands of dollars and there’s no help in the public system for adults.
