the yabby

The Yabby

When kids we would go to a water hole

to see what we could catch

we would sit there thinking

and a plan we would hatch

we then decided

to put meat upon a string

and throw it in the water

then we would sit there patiently

then slowly reel the yabby in

we got so excited

for your colour was so bright

we tried to get you off the string

but you held on with all your might

in a bucket we did put you

some water to keep you wet

got home and put you in a fish bowl

with some rocks and you were set

we watched you with curiosity

with fresh meat you would be fed

but you were a vicious little bastard

for what reason no one said

slowly you began to grow

too big for the fishbowl you got

we wondered what to do with you

as happy you were not

the moral of the story is

never catch a wild creature

and bring it into your home

and make it a feature
