Improving my plight

Improving my plight

Hi,

It seems virtually impossible for me to improve my plight so I can get out of the holes I get stuck in. Because of my history of mental troubles it makes it harder and its really hard for people to get out of poverty too.

I was thinking of seeing if I could get a lotto system to help improve my financial circumstances but it seems like lots of lotto winners wished they never won the lotto and that it didn't help them much at all.

Lots of rich people can get isolated and lose many of their friends. I am not sure about middle class people. Anyway I am poor and mostly broke and living that way isn't nice either.

I don't know how anyone wins the financial system it seems like there are heaps of mentally unwell rich people doing whatever with their money and often probably following university of nsw's motto of don't stand still that just seems terrible for anyones mental health.

I don't know how I improve my plight in such a dystopian dysfunctional society. I think people can be middle class and happy with their lives somehow. I think some middle class seem that way.

My siblings are all married and some have families and they are middle class to upper middle class. They don't have histories of mental issues. Its been too difficult for me to find a girlfriend and I spent 3 months looking for work and was unable to get any.

Getting a job might actually help possibly with my mental health and give me something hopefully helpful for me to do as I know helping people is meant to help with mental health.

Its really hard. I have tried before many times and struggled a lot in the past with my life its not fair at all. I don't know how people can just turn a blind eye to struggling folks like me.

I wish struggling folks like me where actually properly supported and could recover from their mental troubles properly and actually find partners and have a family and hopefully live a better life but this dystopian society we live in hasn't been that helpful for me all that much.

Its been somewhat helpful but the rich seem blind to me about others struggles often and they seem wasteful about how they use their wealth and manage their finances often too.

I just seem to be stuck with the same old crap for decades and decades perhaps until I am old and die. A life not right in a society that is the same its not right either its broken and dysfunctional and barely working properly.

Its not a pleasant life to live at times. I do however get some pleasant times fortunately like some family gatherings, music jamming and music jamming is really hard to get going for me of course too.

One of my friends said I was sort of cursed with my life. It seems like that. He is rich and his dad bought him a house on the eastern suburbs he doesn't live in. That just seems foolish to me as it seems such a wasteful use of so much money especially when there are plenty of homeless people in Sydney that need houses to live in and there are heaps of NIMBYs too that won't allow development so people can live in Sydney.

Lots of people say how great life in Australia and Sydney is. Well I think it has its ups and downs and its not pleasant living in poverty and having so much difficulty getting work or even earning a middle class income.

Struggling in poverty for decades is unpleasant and demoralising and its probably dehumanising too. Its like a human rights abuse I think and lots of people with mental issues often live with chronic human rights abuses against them that they don't deserve at all to live with as many can be decent people that wish society would improve not get worse or continue in its pretty awful state.

2025 I read was a record year in Sydney for mental health calls it was the peak of a crisis year. So heaps of people in Sydney likely in 2026 are also struggling with their mental troubles. One of my friends also said there that many lawyers and people that work in finance in Sydney use hard drugs and its meant to be effecting large numbers of people in Sydney. There probably is a fair amount of drug addiction and misuse in the Eastern Suburbs where my friend is from.

Its hard to cope in such a dystopian society where like everyone is struggling with something and the overall outlook on society is dismal. It also sucks how the rich use their vast wealth so wastefully often too.

Regards,

Argyle.

Thanks for sharing @__Argyle__

So where to from here?

What can you do that is within your control to better yourself?

As you said, there are a lot of people who may have won the lottery, but it doesn't make their quality of life any better, right?

Re: Improving my plight

Hi tyme,

I feel like I am sort of stuck and have been stuck for decades. Most progress has been hard won. A girlfriend may not make me any happier or even that much better off same with a family and my kids are just likely to struggle with a similar plight to myself.

But with my own current plight I still need friends. I feel like I have been denied opportunities in life my parents have had. My parents just struggle with their lives too but are wealthier than me.

Improving my life situation is a difficult issue for me to solve. It would be nice if I could find some sort of nice friendly remote village somewhere where people are happy with their lives and could get help in that community but that also may be hard and language barriers may be hard and they also may not have access to electricity and telecommunications much too.

At least I have discovered Boo for social networking it seems better than the more dystopian and toxic forms of social media like facecrook and spinstergram etc.

I wish people had greater moral sense. I still do business with dystopian corporations and do my banking with ANZ too that isn't a particularly ethical business nor is origin energy.

But I need to get by somehow. Its hard to avoid using insidious corporations businesses.

I have my goals of being an art and music teacher but I am not sure how that will go or whether it will workout properly. I could try to make doing the work more enjoyable and do do that.

My life could be a lot worse. I know of some awful cases of people on the NDIS.

Regards,

Argyle

Re: Improving my plight

I understand the want of a partner. Just so you can have someone to share the mental load of life with.

It's something I struggle with as well.

I wish I had some helpful words, but I also know the feeling of isolation when everyone else seems to be functional at life.

Hey @__Argyle__

It takes a massive amount of courage to be this honest about how heavy and demoralising the cycle of poverty and mental health struggles can feel, especially when you are looking at a society that often feels dysfunctional and indifferent 💚

Everything that you have described, with the "human rights abuse" of chronic poverty, the isolation of the financial system, and the feeling of being stuck, while others seem to move forward effortlessly, is a valid and very painful experience. It isn't fair, and I understand that you feel this sense of dystopia when you see such a stark contrast between your struggles and the wasteful wealth you mentioned.

Please know that feeling stuck does not define your worth as a person. The system is indeed broken in many ways, and I want to reaffirm that struggling within a dysfunctional society is not a personal failure. Recovering from mental troubles and finding a sense of stability is a slow journey, but you deserve the support and the better life that you are wishing for.

We're all here for you 💚

Hi,

It seems like society has always been dystopian and some societies are more dystopian than others.

The way society to me functions of course seems dystopian and it gets me on edge how it operates. lots of jobs are pretty awful and hiring managers are often impossibly perfectionist. When will this dystopia and awful society collapse and there be a revolution for the better I wonder? Probably not anytime soon.

It would be nice if society collapsed into anarchy and society was anarchist and more egalitarian and stayed that way instead of later stage capitalism that is very dystopian and not pleasant for many people. anarchy would be not that pleasant but later stage capitalism isn't particularly pleasant either.

At least people would be freer and not so oppressed under anarchy than later stage capitalism. I like solar punk that offers some hope for a better future for people. But will that ever happen probably not much its hard to get working just like anarchist communes are hard to get working too.

Later stage capitalism to me seems sick and unfair and very dystopian to me its not something to be particularly grateful for.

Argyle.

Hi,

How do 'sane' people cope in the dystopia people live in. My siblings are 'sane' but they all did well at uni and have jobs and are married and some have families too. Its like they have been blessed in life and I have been cursed. Its not fair.

I just get stuck oppressed its not nice at all and its really unfair. Anyway its best I don't compare myself to my siblings and I don't think I am much.

But its sort of understandable how 'sane' people exist in the world their plights are far better than my awful marginalised and oppressed plight. They are priviledged and I am disadvantaged that is why I am considered mentally unwell as my plight has been so harsh and oppressive and their life hasn't.

Argyle.
