Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

Ps , sorry l couldn't find a way to edit that post to add this but anyway.

lt's the depression also too that's also really worrying me. lt's just no way to live and feel that is for sure and l'm truly sorry for others going through it.

Thank you for sharing @mrmista . Sounds so hard.

It sounds like things are pretty miserable out there.

What about looking at a retirement village or something? At least there's other people around.

There's nothing like connection, especially when one gets older.

I hear you.

Mate @mrmista I’m on antidepressants. It stops me from turning into Amos Burton - character from The Expanse tv show.

Anywho. You know there is a ton of people who want somewhere to put their Tiny House. There’s also a ton of homeless women who want a room to rent. I’m one.

I’d be grateful for a shed to live in. I just want to do my woodwork and survive.

If you have enough land, you could bring a village to you.

Thx for that but oh God no couldn't stand one, add another 15yrs eh, well, maybe not even then.

But l hear you too on connection and it is a huge thing about being out here, locals seem content but ldk, l just find it so alone. Can't explain really sorry.

Glisten , thku so much for the thoughts and reply. l'm really glad you've found meds to help to and l hope your ok.

Believe me l'm more aware than most about the insaness of the housing crisis and it breaks my heart every time l see or hear anything, it's criminal in a country like ours.

l was actually a bit worried about posting my problem here bc of it actually and didn't wanna upset anyone.

l've thought about your ideas to actually , it'd help me and help someone else.

l love your woodwork btw , sounds very cool. l wonder can we email people here, l'd love to talk more.

Big hug to you

mr

@mrmista No mate you can’t email members of the Forum because of anonymity.

I have to say you’re in a good position to create change.

I property sit to keep a roof over my head. Do landscaping and land rehab.

If you have land and you treat it with care and respect. You can create a world for yourself.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

That's a real shame but understandable too l know .

But yeah , the last bloke renting it trashed it all and left rubbish all through the block too l'm still finding things through the soil all over the place after 6mths. The soil and land is sacred to me just can't understand people treating it like that but thk God it's almost back to it's old self. He also butchered a lot of the trees l'd planted over the yrs, it's just beyond me.

And true yeah , that's the option l've been thinking about , there's so much l could do with the place, Ex w and l moved a lot and then later broke up so l never have finished a property so yeah, option 1 , for once, l could finish this one

Lifes been so full on over the yrs, so much , so, the thought of starting again somewhere else now literally makes me feel sick to the stomach and l couldn't afford it anyway.

But l don't know if the satisfaction of doing this place would compensate the other parts l really struggle with out here. l mean maybe it helps all that and things get better, ldk , fall into shape and the depression leaves me, dk that either,

lt's just that as l say if it didn't what finances and enthusiasm there are would be blown bc of all my moves in the past, so if l couldn't sell it later - ldk what.

lt's hard to explain butttt, yeah.

Thx for your thoughts though , really appreciated and l hope with all both our situations untangle eh.

l'd love to help someone that needed a place and there's a spot would be really nice for a caravan separately , l've got a van here. l dunno , spose you could call it some sort of sharing thing or something.

Maybe an ad on fb ldk right person could work out really well and might help the isolation l feel and them too.

Def gonna give that one some thought and thx for that.
