Has a book made you think differently?

Has a book made you think differently?

A few years ago, I read a book called ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fu@k’. At the time, I found it interesting but I didn’t think about it too much after reading it.
Recently, after a few ‘challenging’ weeks, I had a long drive and decided to listen to the Audiobook. For some reason it clicked with me a lot more the second time around. Some stories in the book really resonated with me, and it made me reflect more deeply.
One of the things I got out of it was the concept that living a life without pain and suffering on some level is simply not possible. Obviously, some people experience it worse than others, but we all have it to some extent. Overcoming pain and suffering gives our life meaning, making us truly appreciate the good things and good times.
I think back to times when life was really hard. I’m proud of myself for getting through those tough times. I learnt a lot from those events and I’m a better person now because of it. I wish they had never happened, but I wonder if I would be the same person if they didn’t. The main concept / challenge from the book is to choose where and how to give my fu@ks now. Will I waste them on stupid stuff like “what if that person thinks badly of me?” or will I choose to only give a fu@k about the things that are truly worth giving a fu@k about?
I wonder if anyone else has read a book that made them reflect on life in a different way.

Ah, I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing. @r3fresh I haven't read the book, but I think I have it tucked away somewhere...

I am curious, if you were to redirect your attention to the things that do hold meaning for you/are within your control, what would that look like? 🤩

Good question @AuntGlow. My family comes first and foremost, but I have to wonder if my work comes in a close second. That’s not a good thing. So I’m making a commitment to redirect my attention towards my health. Though as I type this at 11pm, I remember that sleep is one of the areas I need to improve. Will have to come back to this one.

@r3fresh I haven't yet read the book, but I think you've convinced me!

I've found sometimes when I read a book, I don't really absorb the intention or clear message it's trying to give. When I come back to it at a different point of life, or even when I'm in a different mood, it can completely shift the understanding and somehow resonates deeper when you're ready to receive it. It's really cool!

@r3fresh @AuntGlow @GalaxyGuide

Actually, my son did recommend this book to me years ago. I never did get it.

I would recommend the Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. I recently listened to the audiobook which the author narrated themselves. She is a great storyteller, and it really resonated with me. It sounds very similar to the book you read. Instead of worrying about what other people are doing or saying you just say let them. Then you say let me and you choose your action. This stops you from living reactively. I might look for your book on Audible and have a listen. I listened to The Let Them Theory a few months ago. Mel Robbins has a few books out, but this is the only one I have listened to so far. She is also a motivational speaker. Thank you for your recommendation!

@r3fresh

I just went online and bought your book on Audible. I will let you know what I think of it after I listen to it.

It's so lovely to hear that your family come first. 🥰

What doesn't sit well with you about work coming second? 🤔

I can definitely see that you want to focus on your health, which is wonderful. What do you think the first step might be towards caring for you? @r3fresh

@Oaktree I haven’t read that one but I like the concept. I have heard her talk about it on podcasts and she’s a very good speaker. I might have to give the audiobook listen on my next road trip.

@r3fresh

I support your post. It didn’t let me.

I think you will enjoy the book but it is like 10 hours long so it may take a couple of trips to listen to it all depending on where you go

@AuntGlow Sometimes I just work too hard and forget to look after myself. Really trying to focus on my overall health. But I really enjoy running, so I am working through injury to get back to it.

I completely understand this @r3fresh.

Running sounds like an amazing way to care for yourself. What does your rehab look like?

Also, how has your weekend been? 💛
