Do you Meditate?

Do you Meditate?

Curious what meditation is for you?

I know for myself it can be breathing deeply in a sauna, gardening, dancing / moving to music around my home... or lately I've been getting up and at same time each day and dedicating 30min to an app called InsightTimer which has thousands of free guided meditations. I've found one guys voice I really love and I'm trying all his.

This helps me gain clarity first thing before each day starts ...

Keen to hear all your thoughts and experiences

Hey @ccau_82

I used to think meditation was all a bit woo-woo too. But I’ve come to see it really isn’t.

I love the Smiling Mind app - when my son was in primary school they used to use it in the classroom and so we started using it at home. If I’m struggling to sleep I use one of their sleep meditations.

And last year I had about a million MRIs and as someone who is claustrophobic, I was really anxious. But I actually managed to talk myself through a mindfulness meditation and completely zone out so didn’t get panicked at all.

Re: Do you Meditate?

I have tried on and off in the past but never really took it too seriously. Recently I had a bit of a rough day and when I got home I just wanted a big sugar hit (which I am struggling to avoid). I found a meditation (it was called a ‘hypnosis’ but it was more guided meditation) for sugar addiction. I thought ‘what the hell’ and laid back and listened. I had very few expectations, but I was really surprised by the result. Not only did I no longer feel the urgent need for sugar, but I felt generally better overall, and my anxiety had wained. I’ve found it hard to repeat that experience but I still find it helps (when I think to do it.) I hope others are finding positive effects. I would definitely recommend giving it a go.

I have experimented with meditation on and off. More off than on. I have done it occasionally and felt good afterwards, but I don't often make the time. It's something I think I would like to do a bit more. I need to make time in the day when I am not feeling so tired that I am in danger of falling asleep.
