Transitioning from military to civilian life can be a big adjustment – for veterans and families alike. Finding a new sense of purpose, reconnecting with community, and navigating identity shifts are all part of the journey.

Watch this free 60‑minute webinar where an inspiring line‑up of speakers will unpack these important topics and share their lived and professional perspectives:

  • Marc MacDonald – Psychologist, Mates4Mates
  • Michael “Mick” Lorrigan – Defence Liaison Officer, Disaster Relief Australia
  • Jessica Holmes – Community and Peer Team Leader, Open Arms
  • David Lauw - Assistant Director - Lived Experience, Open Arms

Together they’ll explore:

  • The difference between a day in the life of serving vs. ex‑serving members
  • The importance of identity beyond service
  • The role of community in recovery and purpose

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know about the webinar coming up on the 17th of this month. "Finding purpose after service". Please see first post of this thread. It looks like there are going to be some very informative speakers. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing what input the peer workers will have. For anyone not sure what a peer worker is, they are workers that have a similar lived experience to the consumer/client. They will have a service background and may have lived or living experience of a mental illness or issue. I am studying to become a peer worker myself. I have had an Army experience, and I live with bipolar disorder. Hope to have you join SANE for this event. Just remember if you can't make the time that usually SANE do post the webinar for viewing later. During the webinar there will be live Q&A so that's a good reason to come to the live event. I have attended a previous webinar that had a speaker from Disaster Relief Australia, and I found it very interesting. This should be both educational and enjoyable to watch.

Dear Forums Members,

Please see the attached Research Opportunity, approved by DVA and supported by RSL Queensland:

Are you a ADF veteran who has transitioned in the last 12 months?

Did you separate from full-time ADF service between September 2024 and August 2025?

We’re inviting you to share your insights.

Whether you had a smooth or challenging transition, or left voluntarily, medically, through retirement, or admin, we’d like to hear your experience.

RSL Queensland, in partnership with Gallipoli Medical Research, is developing a new online training resource to support current ADF members preparing to transition to civilian life.

We’re hosting 1.5–2-hour online focus groups in October 2025, and we’d value your voice in shaping this program.

Brief eligibility phone call

💻 One-time Zoom session

🎁 $50 e-voucher after participation

📩 Interested? Learn more here: https://www.gallipoliresearch.com.au/project/online-transition-training

Feel free to connect or pass this on to anyone who may want to take part.
