We’re showcasing our Community to Parliament!

We’re showcasing our Community to Parliament!

Dear community,

Next Thursday, 10th October, between 10am and 12pm AEDT, SANE will be showcasing our digital support services at Parliament House in Canberra.

During this time, SANE staff will be giving Change Makers, including Government Ministers and high-ranking officials, access to the Forums so that they can see for themselves the wonderful support this community provides to each other.

They will be having a look through the Advocating for Change space and we’ve started a discussion there that we’d love you all to get involved so they can hear from you directly: One improvement you'd like to see in the mental health system to make the experience better?

How can you help?

  • Be yourself – you are already doing such great work for your community
  • Be there – Logon at 10am on Thursday 10th of October
  • Share – say what the forum means to you and your mental health
  • Contribute – put your thoughts in the threads in the Advocating for Change
  • Interact – If you see a new “changemaker” user, make them feel welcome

The discussion is open now and we encourage all community members to contribute in the lead-up to the event:

I want to do more!

If you want to do more, you can also send an email to your local Federal MP and tell them to look out for SANE at 10am on 10th October and encourage them to have a look at the forums.

The most effective messages to Government are brief, positive and personal - so you might like to consider sharing what the forums mean to you and why; and include a link to www.saneforums.org so they can check it out online at 10:00am on 10th October 2024.

There is a link below so that you can work out who your local MP is by entering your postcode:

Members – Parliament of Australia (aph.gov.au)

I’m sorry I can’t help!

That’s ok. If you’re not available or don’t feel like you are in a good space, that’s totally ok. You could add a post to the Advocating for Change discussion anytime and there will be other opportunities to get involved. Supports will still be provided as normal on the day too.

Re: We’re showcasing our Community to Parliament!

@Ru-bee @RachSANECEO @tyme It might be helpful to know if the visiting MPs have a list of questions they want to ask?

You've already mentioned "One improvement you'd like to see in the mental health system to make the experience better?", but is there anything else their particularly hoping to gain some understanding of?

Whenever I get involved in govt. inquiries, ect., it always worries me if I'm not saying everything I need to say; or if I'm waffling on too much in a direction they don't care about, leading them to stop paying attention. It worries me that, by the end of my contribution, their still confused about some key area that I could've clarified better. We know what we know. We don't know what they don't understand, if you know what I mean?

Hi @chibam
Great question.

The biggest thing they don’t know is what these forums are, what they mean, what they offer you, what you get out of it.

We are holding this event to give government a chance to see what this community means to you and how it works so they’ll keep funding it, so priority one is for you to help us tell them directly how it works, how it’s helped you, what sort of connections or support or information in what kind of situations and over what period of time etc etc
